I believe the end is rather surprising. The reader would have though that some sort of change will come about the society, but that doesn't happen at all. Instead John continues to be a show piece, with everyone going out of there way to watch him. John starts to torture himself because he believes it will help him bet closer to god. One day when the huge crowd comes, Lenina is there. He then beats her to death. There's not much after this besides John's suicide, which was probably because he felt guilty for killing her, and could just not deal with everything else.
John is in his apartment thinking about talking about Hemholtz about his love for Lenina, but then Lenina shows up at his door. Lenina is set on having sex with John, but John doesn't want that. He wants a relationship that will last forever, he wants a marriage. He tries to stop Lenina, but she continues to take her clothes off and force herself upon him. He then pushes her away and repeatedly calls her a whore.
In chapter 10 John and Linda come back to London. The director tries to ridicule Bernard and sending him off to Iceland.
Then Bernard comes back at him with Linda and John ridiculing the director. Linda ran to him, hugged him, then John got on his knees and said my father. The crowd started bursting out laughing at him. The director left after that and never came back to his job. Then in chapter 11 John becomes known as " The Savage" or "Mr. Savage" and basically becomes a showpiece. This brings lots of popularity to Bernard all of a sudden, and everyone falsely likes him. At the time Bernard starts to like his society because he believes he fits in now. I believe that later on this will hurt Bernard. Because he starts to enjoy a false life, and after John is no longer the new hip thing, his popularity will disperse. I believe that this will also make Bernard lose his friends such as John, Lenina and Hemholtz. Overall a lot happens in this chapter. In this chapter John, the director and Linda's son, learns to read. It shows multiple examples of of him being beat up, or rocks being thrown at him, and him just being a outcast in general. One night after being kicked out, and not being able to participate with all the other boys, he realizes he is lonely. Bernard happens to be near him when he is talking, and this helps Bernard to realize that he is also lonely, and how much he truly hates his own society. Bernard decides to try and take both Linda, and John back to London with him. John is rejected by both his reservation society and the society in London. He is rejected in the reservation because no one likes his mother, and they are outcasts from a foreign land. Then he would be rejected in London because he was born, and not decanted. I would say this is a interesting chapter, and I am curious to see what happens next. I also believe that someone should fill out my survey.
Chapter 7 was interesting. Bernard and Lenina go to the reservation in New Mexico, where life is more natural. Bernard finds it very interesting and neat, while Lenina hates it, and dislikes everything she sees. They find the girl that The director was with when he came. They find that she had went for a walk, hit her head, and was later found by hunters on the reservation. The director had already left, and she was stuck on the reservation. She had also given birth to a child, the directors child. It seems that this convinces Bernard that the society that he lives in is not right. #PlotTwist
In this chapter Lenina and Bernard go on a date. Bernard wants to be alone with her and just go on a nice walk, but Lenina opposes. They end up going to a wrestling tournament. Afterwards Bernard takes Lenina over the sea, and starts talking about his feeling towards the society. Lenina doesn't like this and starts freaking out taking soma, and trying to get him to take some. She stops freaking out after he puts his arm around her, and starts fondling her breasts. They then sleep together. Bernard regrets it though, because it is not how he wanted his night to end. He wanted to wait to have sex, he wanted to be a adult and think for himself, rather than a infant.
This probably the weirdest chapter yet! Lenina and Henry went to a dance, while Bernard went to a "meeting". The meeting started with passing around soma, then chanting, then dancing around the table, then yelling that they all saw the creator. They then continued on to have sex, and it was a orgy. Bernard participated, but did not enjoy himself. He couldn't handle that the girl he was with had a uni-brow. He also hates the way that his society works, and does not want to participate in it.
This book continues to be odd through chapter 3. It talks about all the children running around naked in this big "play area" participating in "erotic play". One child that did not want to participate was scolded, and then taken away to make sure that he was okay because he did not want to join in the erotic play. These kids are the ages of 5-12, they shouldn't be participating in anything of the sort. Then when the director tells the adolescent students how things used to be when they weren't allowed to have erotic play all the students are surprised like it's just a normal thing for them, and not being able to do it would be horrible. The society in this book has become very morally corrupt.
This book is very odd so far. They are having babies crawl to books and flowers, and then electrocuting them to make them hate flowers. They are physiologically conditioning the babies to not like nature, and to not like books. They don't want people to like nature so that they don't want to leave their jobs and go outside. They used to make them like flowers so that people commuted more, and used more money, but it was taking them away from their jobs.
